Wrinkle tree. Graphite on bonded paper.  When all the trees have died this will help me remember.

remembering the lingering smell of ash and the charred black wood in stark contrast to the bright green hope. mt st helen is reborn. ashes. 12” x 12” charcoal on bonded paper.

While at a critique over the weekend, a well known plein aire artist recommended i paint with the biggest brush possible. i took his suggestion to heart and picked out a 2inch Purdy chinex brush. this painting is my first attempt. Some promising results. i immediantly found myself letting go of all the details and just putting in the larger shape masses. excited to try it again. another cool thing was the speed at which i could lay paint down!
